Hurricane Season Is Here

The tropical storm season is upon us. The consensus forecast for 2008 calls for a very active hurricane season, which is between June 1, 2008, and November 30, 2008.
As a reminder, below is summary of the four storm conditions reported by the National Weather Service that will invoke this procedure:
- Hurricane Watch – Issued when a threat of hurricane conditions (tropical cyclone of winds of 74 mph or higher) is expected within 24 to 36 hours.
- Hurricane Warning – Issued when hurricane conditions are expected for specific coastal area in 24 hours or less with expected landfall to cause threat to life and property.
- Tropical Storm Watch – Issued when tropical storm conditions, include winds from 39 to 73 mph, pose a threat to specific coastal areas within 36 hours.
- Tropical Storm Warning - Issued when tropical storm conditions, including winds from 39 to 73 mph, are expected in a specified coastal area within 24 hours or less.

New CT Teen Driving Laws
HB-5748, “An Act Concerning Teenage Drivers,” takes effect August 1.

We have lost far too many irreplaceable young lives in recent years,” Governor Rell said. “What makes these terrible tragedies on our roads even harder to bear is that every single one is avoidable. This new law will strengthen our legal tools for training and protecting young drivers, and I believe it will help to save lives.
