If you have been thinking about a career in the insurance industry, now is a great time to pursue it. February 2016 is the first ever Insurance Careers Month which was started by Hamilton Insurance Group, Lloyd’s of London, Marsh & McLennan, the Institutes, MyPath, Valen Analytics, the Jacobson Group, InVEST and PCI as a means to pique the interest of anyone looking to start their careers in the realm of insurance.
Being an insurance agent can be a very fulfilling career. Finding the right policy for the right circumstance gives agents a feeling of accomplishment not unlike that feeling you get when you put the last piece in a puzzle. There are many different moving parts to the insurance industry from claims, underwriting, loss control, case management, and more. When they all fall in place and a client is happy with his insurance, it makes us happy.
No matter what section of the insurance world you would like to be a part of, you should find out as much information as you can. There are many places you can find resources regarding insurance employment. Contact your state’s insurance regulations department (in CT it is the Connecticut Insurance Department) to see if anyone is hiring and what will be required before you can be hired. In some cases you will need to complete a course to become a licensed broker. In other cases, you may be able to start work right away with the credentials you already carry. Either way, you will certainly learn a lot about the insurance industry and how everything is handled from start to finish.
