17 Jun Flood & Hurricane Season: Are You Prepared?
A recent article on Weather.com shows how hurricanes are forming earlier and earlier, outside of Hurricane season. This year’s hurricane season was record-breaking given that we had already reached letter “C” in the alphabet in the first week of June. As we all know, stronger and more dangerous storms keep making their way to shore each year. All of this lends itself to an increased risk for flooding, and this flooding risk stretches beyond the shoreline!
Flooding is a risk to any home or business, whether inland or near the coastline. In fact, in the past five years, all 50 states have experienced floods, and at least one-in-four businesses that shuts down from a natural disaster never reopens. According to the U.S. government, the average commercial flood claim in the past five years has been around $89,000, and the average property damage due to flooding adds up to more than $3.5 billion annually.
It is important to note that homeowners insurance policies do not cover floods, making situations like hurricanes and floods all the more dangerous. A separate flood policy is required in order to secure the coverage you need. This hurricane season is off to a quick start, so now is the time to get your policy. Especially because this coverage doesn’t take effect until 30 days after purchase.
Please, contact your trusted agent at Sava Insurance Group to prevent losses and damage to your property. We are more than happy to walk you through your existing coverage and find the flood policy that’s right for you!
