25 Jun Be Prepared, Hurricane Season is Here!
With summer here at long last it brings to us barbeques, beaches and bronzing in the balmy sunshine. What summer also has is the potential to pack in a major hurricane.
The Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th with the peak of the season lasting from mid-August until late October. Hurricanes are known to cause irreparable destruction along the coastline as well as several hundred miles into the country with winds having the potential to surpass 155 miles per hour. Mostly, hurricanes bring extensive damage due to heavy rainfall and storm surges. A storm surge delivers a dramatic increase of water generated by heavy winds off the water. Who could ever forget Hurricanes Irene of 2011, Sandy of 2012 and Nemo of 2013 and all of the damage that was left behind for the community to clean up?
